Project description

In recent years, the COCOON group has developed expertise and infrastructure for coating of air-sensitive materials and substrates. This enabled us to offer a workflow in which materials/substrates can be sent to us, and opened under inert ambient in a glovebox. The surface can be modified by applying a thin oxide, nitride or metal film through Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) or sputter deposition (PVD), and the resulting material can be electrically/electrochemically tested or packaged, all without air exposure. Through MAXLAB, it is our intention to create an integrated system for vacuum-based deposition of hybrid/organic coatings via Molecular Layer Deposition (MLD), deposition of sulphide coatings by ALD and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for surface characterisation. Through the development of this unique setup, we aim to seize on opportunities for collaborations with companies that are exploring nanocoatings in the fields of nanoelectronics, Li-ion batteries and electrocatalysts.
