Parity and parturition are risk factors for the development of sepsis during E.coli mastitis. The severity of sepsis can be classified into mild, moderate and severe sepsis. We hypothesize that during severe sepsis a positive feedback mechanism exists between prostaglandins (e.g. PGE2) and cytokines (e.g. TNFα) in circulating bovine neutrophils.
