Project description

We want to investigate how ‘Maçã’, an economic important race of banana, can survive in Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc)-infested agroforestry systems. We will test the following hypotheses: spots of suppressive soils to Foc are created in the field, containing the spread of the disease; degradation of lignin-rich residues in soil affects negatively chlamydospore survival; and reduced abiotic stress may induce resistance to Foc.
