Lactifluus volemus is a traditional morphological species, easily distinguishable by several unique macro- and micromorphological characcteristics. Nevertheless, a strikingly large genetic divergence has been observed. We are dealing with a complex of different cryptic species. This combined molecular and morphological study aims to establish the age of the group, its phylogeographic history, the number of taxa present, their morphological limits and geopgrahical distributions.
