In this project we will launch a gene discovery project based on transcription and metabolome profiling of Qionoa (chenopodium quinoa), an Ecuadorian plant species that produces different bioactive triterpene saponins. The generated gene platform will serve as a resource to ensure sustainable production of natural triterpene saponins, as well as to create novel triterpenes, with superior bioactivities, through a combinatorial biosynthesis program.
