The general goal of this proposal is (i) to gain a full understanding of the function of selected genes involved in connective tissue diseases and some forms of cancer, both in humans and in animal models, (ii) to study the gnetic basis underlying the phenotypic variation observed in these diseases and (iii) to develop and test new therapeutic strategies for these and related common disorders based on direct targeting of specific cellular pathways.
