Project description

AntiFUNzymes are a novel concept of enzyme-based antimicrobials with a dual mode of action targeting fungal pathogens. This project elaborates on a previously demonstrated technical proof-of-concept (ConcepTT) showing the dual mode-of-action of AntiFUNzyme cocktails in a plant – fungal model system (tomato-Botrytis cinerea). We aim to leverage this concept through engineering of AntiFUNzyme complexes, to evaluate their efficacy in realistic scenarios of crop protection, and to expand the concept to new application domains including pharma and veterinary which is in line with the objectives of the UGent One Health platform. These data will be used to strengthen and to broaden the patent claims, and to increase the valorisation potential.
