Project description

Sports fraud poses a significant and multifaceted threat to sports. The most prevalent form of sports fraud is doping, followed by competition manipulation, but it can manifest in many forms across any competitive sport. This issue is complex and cannot be solely attributed to corrupt individuals or failing systems. Instead, sports fraud arises from the interplay different factors. This complexity necessitates comprehensive scientific research that integrates various perspectives.

Historically, research on sports fraud, has primarily focused on an individual perspective, highlighting personal morality or the rational choice of individuals to engage in fraud. However, fraud is significantly influenced by what is deemed normal behavior within a given context. Therefore, the proposed research will concentrate on the normalization of fraud in sports. The goal is to gain holistic insights into sports fraud, provide sustainable strategies to combat it, and develop new methods for studying it.
