Project description
The recent emergence of the lethal, cutaneous fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal) poses an imminent threat to the survival of the vertebrate order of urodelans in the western Palearctic. This project will generate fundamental insights in host-pathogen interactions involved in susceptibility of the urodelan host to infection with Bsal. The skin receptors, skin antimycotic compounds and skin microbiota will be investigated and compared between susceptible and resistant salamander species. Our results will pave the way for the development of long-term sustainable mitigation measures
