Project description

The French revolution created a new fiscality and tax administration; key elements in the state formation processes and the organization of society itself. This research project examines the contrast between the continuity of the former fiscal system and the Belgian economic expansion (1795-1852). Which role did the tax administration play in the formation of the modern Belgian ‘fiscal state’?
