Project description

The AVITI System is a groundbreaking Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) instrument that marks a
paradigm shift in accessibility and capabilities for research scientists. The unparalleled combination of
exceptional accuracy, affordability, high output, and flexibility that the AVITI System offers, was
previously beyond reach. What sets the AVITI System apart is that it democratizes access to highthroughput NGS technology, enabling researchers to undertake ambitious and data-demanding
projects which were not feasible with existing technology due to cost constraints. A significant
additional advantage is the flexible throughput of the AVITI system, allowing smaller projects that
still profit from an exceptionally low price per data point. Since the UGent NGS Core provides
expertise for a wide array of applications across diverse life science fields, this flexibility at such a
cost is an enormous advantage.
Furthermore, the integration of the AVITI System into the UGent NGS core amplifies its impact. The
center is characterized by its critical mass in infrastructure, operational capacity, expertise, and
skilled personnel. By housing the AVITI System, the UGent NGS core will consolidate its position as a
hub for cutting-edge research in massively parallel sequencing (MPS) technologies. This benefits
researchers across an array of Life Science fields and also fosters the emergence of new and
essential areas of research.
