Flow cytometry allows to characterize experimental and clinical samples at single cell resolution, and to purify specific cells based on cell surface markers on these cells. To consolidate the cell sorting capacity of the Flow Cytometry CORE Facility, we need to replace a 19-year old cell sorter that is at the end of its functionality. To increase accessibility and usage potential, we opt for an easy to operate basic cell-sorter that enables researchers to sort independently following training by the Flow CORE staff. The sorter will be placed in a Biosafety Cabinet to enable sorting of clinical tissues and cells. This will enable rapid processing of experimental and (pre)clinical (patient) samples, essential to avoid time-induced artefacts to ensure top-science within fields as immunology, oncology, infectiology and many others. This basic cell sorter will be embedded and managed by the Flow Cytometry CORE facility according to the instructions and requirements of Ghent University.
