Project description
This research project studies the environment and the use of plants in the (post)medieval urban district of Ypres - De Meersen from the 13th to the 16th century. Based on the analysis of subfossil pollen grains and other botanical microfossils from the fill of various archaeological features such as ditches, pits, and inhumation graves, both the contemporary environment and the use of different plant materials will be reconstructed. Furthermore, the function and taphonomy of these various archaeological features will also be studied.
