This grant application seeks funding for a Ph.D. research project focused on the positive (sexual satisfaction and pleasure) and negative (sexual violence) aspects of sexual health among transgender an gender diverse (TGD) individuals aged 55 and above. The study aims to address the significant gaps in existing research concerning the intersectionality of transgender identity, aging, and sexual health. The first phase, the explorative phase, of the research methodology encompasses a literature review using a critical integrative synthesis, a retrospective analysis using existing data and a in-depth interviews. This step aims to asses knowledge gaps and to generate hypotheses for the next phase. The next phase is the confirmative phase. In this phase a prospective longitudinal study will be conducted in order to assess the previously proposed hypotheses. The significance of this Ph.D. research lies in addressing the lack of knowledge on sexual health within the TGD older adult demographic. A more nuanced comprehension of this group's sexual health will contribute to the way health care can attend to their needs. This in its turn is aimed to increase sexual health, mental health and the overall quality of life of transgender and gender diverse older adults.
