The research are the following: - What combination of parameters are suitable to be included in an extended or downsized protocol, to evaluate the well being of broiler chickens during transport to the slaughterhouse? - How will the results of these individual parameters can be integrated into an overall score for the animal-friendliness of transportation? - How these protocols can be downsized to optimally scale application in practice to achieve - How is the loading, transporting and unloading of day-old chicks and broilers in Belgium and what are the bottlenecks in the field of animal welfare? - What are the feasibility. bottlenecks and cost-benefit of applying the full and leaner welfare assessment protocols under field conditions? - What are the risk factors during loading, transporting and unloading for the welfare of broiler chickens? - Have animal welfare and other conditions during transport affects the meat quality and carcass yield? - How effective are promising remedial actions against major welfare problems during transport of day-old chicks and broilers. and what are their effects on production parameters? _ Weighing the benefits of implementing these remedial actions against the cost?
