Project description

Digital technologies are reshaping business and society. Businesses are leveraging these technologies not only for efficiencies, but also for driving innovation and generating business value. Our research examines how to successfully implement digital technology in business. One such implementation is a digital platform. While prior research has observed faster growth and higher profits for digital platform models than for traditional ones, important research questions remain. First, what determines digital platform success and how should it be measured? Second, which structural and evolutionary factors (e.g., strategic priorities, platform capabilities, monetization models, and evolution strategies) drive sustainable platform performance? In addressing these questions, we aim to extend the academic literature on digital platforms while also providing guidance to business practitioners seeking to build and strengthen their digital platform businesses for sustained success.
