Project description

We are requesting the replacement and expansion of our 25-year-old dynamic thermo-mechanical analyzer (DTMA), which suffers from wear, inefficient and unsafe cooling via liquid nitrogen, and the lack of humidity control. The new DTMA features modern nitrogen gas-based cooling and an integrated humidity module, significantly improving both safety and measurement capabilities. This instrument is essential for characterizing the mechanical and thermal properties of materials. Our research group has developed unique expertise in this technology, resulting in numerous publications and collaborations within and beyond Ghent University. The new DTMA will enable innovative research lines, such as studying temperature and humidity effects in materials like biological tissues, natural materials, plastics, textiles, and composites. The broad consortium of eight promoters from various departments and faculties highlights the wide applicability and innovative nature of this infrastructure.
