Project description

Summary scientific goals TALENT
In Flemish education today, there is a strong emphasis on strengthening the inclusion in mainstream education of pupils with participation problems due to specific educational needs. An important goal of education and care for students is to support the development of talents and competences of all young people.
Pupils with strong cognitive skills also often need tailor-made education and care, tailored to their educational and upbringing needs. However, compared to other countries, few or no systematic policy measures are taken in Flanders to encourage the development of excellence and prevent under-performance. Rather, the identification and care of learners with strong cognitive skills is left to the competences and preferences of individual teachers and schools and to the options of parents to seek additional care. From the perspective of equal educational opportunities, it is crucial that knowledge and competences with regard to customized education and care for cognitively strong students become generally accessible in education and student care.
