Project description

In recent years, in several of the 'traditional' enginee1ing sciences, environmental impact and

sustainability are terms which have gained more and more importance. In the past, materials processing

frequently suffered from a negative connotation when it came to environmental matters, e.g. heavy metal

pollution. However, when studying environment-related problems, one is also frequently confronted with

typical mate1ials science related problems, because materials science is pre-eminently an interdisciplinary

field. Moreover, a profound knowledge of materials science can often be a lever to obtain a solution.

Within the framework of the cu!l"ent research plan, several research topics will be tackled which would

perfectly add to the expertise and fit within the vision of the 'Metal Science and Technology (MST)'

research unit of the Department of Mate1ials Science and Enginee1ing (DMSE).
