Project description

The Large-Scale Reference Database (GRB) has been area-wide since the end of 2013 and since then has grown to become the topographic reference for all Flemish organizations dealing with large-scale basic data. It forms the logical reference file for all site management authorities in Flanders.
These site management agencies need a wide range of terrain-related information {trees, landscaping, pavements, ...). However, the GRB itself only contains information of well-definable, conventionally accepted reference data (poles, curbs, bus shelters), which forces these site management companies to set up their own inventories if they want to meet this information need.
The local authorities are also part of the area management bodies. At the moment there is no exact data about the total surface area of public domain that is their management, but an estimate based on a large-scale inventory in Aalst shows that about 18% of the total area is owned by the City and the city. OCMW. The effective area under management is likely to increase as local authorities in some cases take over the management of areas owned by, for example, the Flemish Government.
This immense area, combined with the feeling that the local authorities have an important task to design and manage the surface in a high-quality manner, places local authorities at a significant challenge.
