Project description
In my thesis I want to tease out and examine the mutual relationship between science and
development in the Belgian colonial context. Science became a mainstay of development discourses
and practices, while development problems informed scientific programmes. How exactly did this work
in Belgian colonial policy? My case study in this project is INEAC, the National Institute for Agronomy
in Belgian Congo, during the years 1930-1970
