Project description
Water-intensive industries are increasingly recycling treated wastewater, even to high-end applications like demineralized water. Demineralization is partly achieved by membrane filtration, but membranes are prone to fouling, which steeply increases operational costs. This research investigates the use of constructed wetlands intensified with aeration and with biochar to reduce the biological activity of the wastewater and thus membrane fouling.
