Neuroinflammatory disorders comprise a frequent group of diseases that cause severe morbidity and mortality, often at an early age. Since his 5% ZAP appointment in 10/2019 Prof. Dr. Laureys developed a strong research profile in clinical and preclinical research into neuroinflammatory diseases. This has since resulted in a series of research papers (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=guy+laureys&sort=date&size=20) with a critical impact on our knowledge of this group of disorders. Since Prof. supervised Laureys 3 Ghent University doctorates, 1 of which has been completed and 2 of which are scheduled for public defense in the coming months. The BOF basic funding will be used for the continuation and further expansion of this research branch.
