Project description

Pain is one of the most common physical complaints in both children and adults, and its negative impact on daily life is substantial. However, pain, and in particular chronic pain, is not easy to understand and resolve within a medical framework. Hence, an interdisciplinary and biopsychosocial approach to chronic pain is advocated. This research community is an extension of an already existing network that mainly focused on fundamental research on pain. The current research community wants to take the step towards translational and clinical research. It will use clinically relevant methodologies (N=1 studies, multilevel analyses, network analyses, machine learning, digital interventions, etc.) and innovative research technologies (“Virtual Reality”, “Ecological Momentary Assessment”, advanced imaging, diary studies, eHealth, etc.). The proposed research community wishes to promote contacts at the national and international level between researchers from different disciplines who want to help realize this. Its main objectives are (1) to consolidate and expand research collaborations, (2) to facilitate research opportunities through synergy of expertise and resources, and (3) to create a platform for translational and clinical research, leveraging the knowledge from the lab. implemented in the daily lives of people with chronic pain.
