Project description

Communication networks more and more play a key role in our daily life. The Internet probably is the most prominent example: social media, e-commerce, online meetings, etc. But for example all servers in a data center are also interconnected via a large network. And the chips in our smartphones, laptops, etc are more and more becoming complete system-on-chip (SoC), where different modules communicate with each other via a so-called interconnect network.
These networks typically provide a best-effort service. That means that no guarantees are provided in terms of the performance (e.g., latency) of the offered service. Most of the time, such best effort services simply work; however not all the time (e.g., think about hick ups in some video calls). The objective of this project is to study how to improve the determinism and reliability of these networks and how more guarantees can be provided.
