Project description
The multidisciplinary research group KB45 (Art in Belgium since 1945) was established in 2019 at UGent, within the departments of Art, Music and Theater Studies on the one hand, and Architecture & Urbanism on the other.
KB45 aims to map the situation of living art in Belgium since 1945 and frame it within the broader artistic culture in the postwar period, from both a local and international perspective. The approach is at once art-historical, critical and social-institutional, with a focus on artists' careers and oeuvres, exhibition histories, institutional histories, and architectural conditions and circumstances. Cultural policy and the broader political context in Belgium are used as a frame of reference.
