Project description

The proposed research is part of a collaboration with the Royal Meteorological Institute at Dourbes and BOF financial resources will be used to fund the doctoral research of Jirka Verleysen. The research aims at the analysis and construction of a large volume magnetically shielded environment that protects highly sensitive special magnetic measuring equipment from the influence of the Earth's magnetic fields and other environmental fields. The envisioned shielded environment is 18mx 9m x 3m and the intended magnetic shielding is 1/1000 of the Earth's magnetic field. The construction of suc an environment requires an in-depth study of the magnetic behavior of high-performance magnetic materials combined with numerical modeling of the shielding performance of different layered configurations. In addition, the awarded BOF funds will be used to purchase measurement equipment and electrical power supplies as part of Iman Lorzadeh's ongoing doctoral research.
