Project description

Objectives

1. Elucidation of the structure of the CLPs produced by Pseudomonas CMR12a and Pseudomonas
CMR5c, isolated from the rhizosphere of cocoyam and those produced by Pseudomonas cichorii, the
pathogen on lettuce.
2. Investigation of the pathogenicity on monocots (rice) and dicots (lettuce, bean, tomato) of the CLPproducing
bacteria, mentioned in (1) and CLP producers from the viscosin, tolaasin, and syringomycin
group. For this purpose, we will use the following isolates: viscosin group: Pseudomonas fluorescens
SS101 (antagonist, isolated from the wheat rhizosphere, produces massetolide); tolaasin group:
Pseudomonas fuscovaginae (pathogen on rice, causal agent of brown sheath rot and produces
syringomycin, syringotoxin and fuscopeptin A and B); syringomycin group: Pseudomonas syringae pv.
syringae (produces syringomycin and syringopeptin)
3. Study the role of CLPs in pathogenicity on monocots and dicots of the strains tested positive in (2)
4. Examination of the capacity to induce systemic resistence of the fluorescent Pseudomonas strains,
mentioned in (1) and (2) against Pseudomonas fuscovaginae on rice and Pseudomonas cichorii on bean
and tomato.
5. Study the role of CLPs in the induction of systemic resistance for the strains, considered positive in (4).
6. Investigation of the mechanisms, involved in the induction of systemic resistance by CLPs
