Project description

The main objective of the project is the further development and evaluation of this method on the crop groups that are most important to the Flemish ornamental plant sector. The primary target group is the Flemish ornamental plant breeding sector consisting of 20 to 25 SME companies including 2 cooperatives (Azanova and Best-select). This sector is the spearhead of Flemish floriculture (+/- 850 employees or 10% of total employment in floriculture) and invests at uistek in innovative techniques for the development of new products. Although limited in number, these companies within the production column of, for example, potted plants, bedding plants, perennials, azalea and chrysanthemums for continuous renewal and improvement of products that go directly or through young plant companies to the specialized production companies. The added value creation of compact growing plants that can be cultivated without or with significantly less growth inhibitors will be realized in the complete chain of ornamental plant production.
