Project description

Conventional light microscopy remains one of the most widely used optical instruments in the sciences. Here, we apply for funding to obtain a versatile upright light microscope equipped with LED epifluorescence and transmitted illumination as well as optics that support brightfield, epifluorescence, dark field, differential interference contrast and crossed-polarised imaging. A high-resolution dual-mode (monochrome/colour) digital camera will allow clear observation with a high signal-to-noise ratio and ‘smart’ software permits (semi-)automated stitching, multichannel acquisition, and extended depth of field imaging. This setup will support ongoing and future research of the Department of Plants and Crops in the fields of phytopathology, plant ecophysiology, horticulture, crop protection, sustainable crop production,  agroecology, entomology and acarology.
