Project description

My research group focuses on detecting and interpreting the different types of physical/chemical signals (i.e. 'event deposits') that have been left behind in the sedimentary infill of marine and lacustrine basins in the recent to geological past by climatic and/or geological events (e.g. earthquakes, floods, volcanic activity, tsunamis, etc.). The BOF Basic Research Funding will allow providing additional support (e.g. extra laboratory analyses, international mobility, additional fieldwork, etc.) to the currently ongoing PhD projects on Laacher See, the Shetland Islands and the North Sea, but also to still ongoing studies in Japan, Sumatra, Chile, Alaska, Africa and the European Alps.
