The missions of the academic workshop deinstitutionalization include:
1° knowledge development and transfer through setting up and conducting long-term and practice-oriented academic research in a learning network,
2° process-oriented development of a review and inspiration framework deinstitutionalization.
The organization of the academic workshop deinstitutionalization "Space for handicap" and the realization of its missions, contributes to the following objectives of the Flemish Government:
1° realize support for persons with disabilities based on self-direction and autonomy;
2° implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities .
