Project description

This proposal investigates the international position of present-day Belgium from the Congress of Vienna until the end of the nineteenth century. Its uniqueness lays in the investigation of the main diplomatic actors’ legal discourse, or the way in which political problems are conceptualized. The proposal covers a considerable timespan, but builds further on earlier works of mainly political history. Its aim is to show how diplomatic practice used its own categories.
