Project description

Children with a chronic illness or children who have survived a long-term illness such as cancer often suffer from a delay in motor development and a greatly reduced physical fitness. Although specialised rehabilitation centers could offer the required care, a more sustainable manner to promote the child’s motor development and fitness is to translate the rehabilitation programs to the child's daily context, for example the school. In this way, frequent visits to the rehabilitation center are avoided and specialised care remains available for patients with more specific needs. However, the P.E. teachers often feel insufficiently competent to respond to the (exercise-)needs of these children. In this project, the research unit Motor Control, the Child Rehabilitation Center and Artevelde University of Applied Sciences want to valorise their knowledge and expertise with regard to this problem and develop an information and inspiration guide for schools through a co-creation process.
