Project description

We will focus our attention on Cuban history during the first phase of the Revolution (1959-1974). During this period Castro's administration became gradually a Marxist experience, crowned by a more decisive integration into the Socialist bloc (end of the 60s). Our main aim is to provide a view of the evolution and ambivalences of the rapports between Cuban Society and the communist model, identifying different phases of this non-linear phenomenon.
This process may be seen in a plurality of spheres of Cuban life: from the articulation of political structures to the adoption of a new culture in a revolutionary society. We will seek to reveal different facets of this complex evolution (ideological, theoretical, cultural, etc.) in a global perspective. We will focus on the impact of Cuban Revolution in Latin America (using the example Chile) and in Western Europe (privileging Belgian reactions).
