In this research project, we test the implementation of community health workers (CHW) to increase health literacy and informed decision-making (IDM) regarding cancer screening participation among underscreened women in deprived communities. We postulated that a real difference could be made in informed decision making
regarding cancer screening by CHWs providing tailored information on screening. To our knowledge, this project will be the first to pilot test a CHW-based intervention to increase Health Literacy and promote cancerscreening IDM and participation among underscreened women living in deprived communities in Flanders.
The aims of this project are two-fold:
1. To develop a CHW-based intervention to promote cancer screening IDM among underscreened people
with low HL living in deprived communities, including patient education on the sampling possibilities.
2. To assess the effectiveness of the CHW-based intervention using the FAME framework for
intervention evaluation (feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness, effectiveness).
