In the study of microorganisms and diagnosis of infectious diseases, molecular techniques are becoming increasingly important. In our research, we use these techniques to study microorganisms and their relationship to the host.

The lines of research are:

- Molecular virology of HIV and SARS-CoV-2, with emphasis on the relevant viral factors for modulation of innate immunity upon infection of primary human host cells.

- Whole genome sequencing of bacteria for typing and detection of virulence factors

- Microbiome and metagenome analyses, to describe population signatures. This allows comparison of patients, and to measure the effect of fecal microbiota transfer.
