Project description

Developing pressure ulcers. Despite progress in many aspects of intensive care, the problem of decubitus remains and calls for greater awareness. The objective of the DecubICUs project is to provide an up-to-date, international "global" picture of the extent and patterns of pressure ulcers in ICUs. Thereto we plan to perform a 1-day, prospective, multicenter point-prevalence study. The large scale of the project should allow thorough epidemiological analyses. More precisely the study will enable to identify risk factors, incidence, preventive measures used, shortages in the availability of prevention measures, malpractices, and economic outcomes. Additionally, the prevalence rate will enable us to define a baseline for future benchmarking in distinct regions or countries.
