This project aims at the synthesis and transformation of functionalized beta-lactams into a variety of biologically relevant nitrogen compound. The central theme of this project comprises the combination of a beta-lactam unit with different heterocyclic scaffolds to produce novel potential pharmacophores. Thus, the synthesis of different heterocyclic systems (indoles, pyrazoles, isoquinolines, pyridines, pyrimidines, coumarines,…) substituted with a beta-lactam ring is contemplated as substrates for further elaboration.
