Project description

Prof Dr Wim Hardyns has conducted pioneering research into the use of big data and predictive analytics within the fields of security, making him one of Europe's foremost experts on big data policing. As evidence of his expertise, a big data policing model (a statistical script) has been built from scratch as part of different academic research projects into big data policing. This script includes data input pipelines, pre-processing, and post-processing steps that are essential for predicting spatiotemporal crime patterns and has successfully been adapted to several Belgian and European contexts. A next crucial step is to prototype the big data policing technology in an industrial Proof of Concept (PoC), including the integration of the big data policing model within the infrastructure of the end-users. Hence, the aim of this IOF-StarTT project is to adapt the technical PoC to the needs, objectives and requirements of end-users such as Belgian and European law enforcement agencies.
