Project description

The International Classification for Primary Care version 3 (ICPC-3) enables the most common
common symptoms and complaints, diagnoses and interventions in primary care to be named and
coding. The classification was developed to code the domain of primary care, primarily the
general practice, to code. The core of ICPC-3 (without the region-specific codes) has approximately 1350 codes.

The technological evolution and the emergence of e-health ensures that exchange of information between information systems is essential; in other words, attention must be paid to “interoperability.” This can be done automatically from a mapping starting from SNOMED CT, the reference terminology chosen in Belgium. However, there is currently no automatic derivation via mapping available from SNOMED CT to ICPC-3.

Mapping from SNOMED CT to ICPC-3 requires a combination of domain knowledge, expertise in both terminologies and international collaboration with experts in the field to ensure accurate and meaningful mappings and semantic interoperability. Mapping SNOMED CT to ICPC-3 involves several tasks to establish correlation between the two terminologies.
