Project description

The purposeof this research is to develop an optimal torrefaction/slow pyrolysis reactor system. It should be borne in mind that this is quite an open-ended goal as there are numerous different types of biomass and possible reactor systems. Additionally, torrefied biomass and char are not yey governed by strict quality standards and this would impact the reactor design greatly. At this stage, the intention is to provide a solid biofuel which can match the grindability of coal: this is the mayor constraint when incorporating biomass into pulverised-coal boilers used in power generation
