Polymers are abudantly present in our daily live. One of the challenges is making them more sustainable, either by better design during the synthesis or the achievement of better recyclability after use. Many parameters influence the sustainability level of a polymer and therefore a combination of experimental analysis and modeling is recommended to enable polymer design. A specific design field is polymer modification, meaning that the polymer at hand is modified either by incorporating degradable groups or a grafted copolymer is made facilitating compatibilization. Many polymers applications are based on blends and thus compatibilization is critical.
The current project applies model-based design for sustainable polymer modification, supporting sustainable synthesis and recycling of polymer(s) (blends).
