Context

Therapy of gender identity disorder induces an altered hormonal milieu.

Design

Prospective intervention study in 100 transsexuals,

cross-sectional study after long-term therapy in 50 female-to-male transsexuals

Objective

To explore the interplay of bone, fat, steroids and metabolism in relation to cross-sex hormonal therapy

Methods

Body composition and bone imaging, serum/tissue hormones, muscle/fat biopsies and mRNA expression of regulating factors
