This project aims to study the continuity of ancient philosophy and its interaction with religion over the centuries. The historiography of philosophy has often put caesura between ancient philosophy and medieval philosophy, between medieval and modern philosophy, but ancient philosophy has had a lasting impact both on the Christian and Islamic periods, and even in the post-confessional period, as in the case of a thinker of the stature of Nietzsche, great critic of Christianity, ancient philosophy and religion are never far away. Moreover, this impact is not limited to strictly philosophical "technical" genres such as the treatise and the commentary, but ancient philosophy and its reception are also reflected in other literary forms such as the dialogue and even the novel or a work of art such as the Lamb of God by the Van Eyck brothers that one cannot fully understand without ancient philosophy.
