Adjacent to park Vyncke-Bovyn in Wondelgem is the residential care campus 'De Wal' of vzw Kompas. This site will undergo extensive redevelopment in the coming years. Although embedded in the fabric of the neighbourhood, this site is poor in socio-spatial qualities and lacks opportunities for convivial encounters. From September 2023 to June 2025, a number of research tracks are being carried out (post-doc research Toon Benoot, research of the Academic Workplace on De-Institutionalisation and student-led research in the field of architecture, engineering, social work, special education), bundled under the umbrella of the Urban Academy 'space for care' track. In this valorisation project, we propose to build a mobile station that embodies research insights and evokes possiblities. In its multifunctional use, the mobile station links research findings back to the neighbourhood and triggers a broader societal discussion about de-institutionalisation.
