This project examines the law governing the external relations of the European Union (EU), with a particular focus on the legal framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and its relationship with other areas of EU law.
The research project analyses (i) how the competences related to the EU’s external action are delineated and applied in practice; (ii) how the specific EU Treaty provisions concerning the CFSP influence the coherence of the EU’s external action; and (iii) how judicial review of international agreements concluded by the EU and unilaterally adopted restrictive measures has evolved.
By addressing these key areas, the project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the EU navigates its external relations within its complex legal framework, and how the coherence and effectiveness of its external action are maintained and regulated.
