Pharmacometrics is the discipline that includes the analysis and interpretation of measured data from (pre-)clinical drug research based on mathematical models. On the basis of these models, calculations and simulations can be carried out to support the development of new drugs or perform dose adjustments (in relation to age, specific co-morbidities, etc.) for existing drugs. Development of models assumes analytical data are available. Drug concentrations obtained from clinical studies are also necessary for the validation of such models. The determination of these measured values is performed via bioanalytical techniques in which quantitative mass spectrometry plays an important role. Since each drug is different, a specific analytical protocol needs to be developed and validated each time. The research focus is on antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, and specific populations (seniors, neonates, intensive care patients, ...).
