Project description

As a psychiatrist, my main interest lies in the neurobiological field of psychopatholgy. In order to gain more insight into the underlying mechanisms of brain processes in the 'healthy' as well as in the 'mentally affected' human brain, brain imaging paradigms (MRI, fMRI, (S)PET, EEG, fNIRS, ....) are used with or without the combination of neuromodulation techniques such as rTMS, ECT, VNS and tDCS. The focus is on using these neuromodulation techniques to improve our understanding (with brain imaging) of various psychiatric disorders, such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder and autism, to name a few. This is the core research of the Gent Laboratory for Experimental Psychiatry (GHEP).
