Our goal is to design and synthesize novel small molecules to modulate original biochemical targets or pathways to tackle conditions with unmet medical needs. Towards that goal many valuable national and international collaborations are established.
From a chemical perspective, we focus on the chemical synthesis of novel nucleoside, carbohydrate, phosphonate and glycolipid analogues, as well as conjugates, such as PROTACs, bivalent GPCR ligands and photocaged drugs.
Our research activities will continue to focus on infectious diseases, including neglected diseases. While initially following target-based approaches to tackle disease-causing micro-organisms, a recent shift to a phenotypic approach seems more fruitful for to the discovery of promising leads against diseases caused by different trypanosomatids and related protozoa.
